Other benefits of using natural penetrating oils for hardwood floors are:
Oil-infused protection. While all common categories of wood flooring today are durable and can meet the needs of the floor owner, natural oils and surface finishes work differently. The oils seep into the wood and harden, adding a degree of strength to the floor. In comparison, surface finishes gain durability by applying multiple coats of finish to the floor (see application cost below). They bring out the essence of the wood, giving hardwood floors a low-gloss finish. Natural oils provide the most authentic look and feel of wood, giving it a warm, smooth feel. Natural oak treated with Arboritec Satin Oil, an oxidation-hardened maintenance oil used for intermittent cleaning of oiled floors. If properly cared for, hardwood floors coated with natural oils will not need to be re-sanded. If professional spot repairs are needed at some point, floors with natural oil finish floors are easier and less expensive to make. Use tung oil for wood and various surfaces including brick, concrete and stone. For wood floors, use tung oil only on unfinished wood that will allow the oil to penetrate.
